Silage Choppers & Snake Spirits The Lives & Struggles of Two Americans in Modern China This biography follows the lives and struggles of Sid Engst and Joan Hinton who left their lives in the United States to experience first-hand the events of the Chinese revolution. It follows their experiences working alongside ordinary Chinese people from the Inner Mongolian steppe to a State Commune in Beijing. Their journey offers an unusual insight into the events that make up modern Chinese history from Liberation to the Cultural Revolution. Ms. Dao-yuan Chou is a Chinese American who met Hinton and Engst while working at the Agricultural Machinery Mechanization Experiment Station outside of Beijing in 1992. She returned in 1995 to conduct interviews for an oral history project which later became the basis for this book. Chou lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. 2009 English ISBN 971-0483-37-2 5.5 x 8.5 in., 466 pages shipping weight: 680 grams regular price: P678 (US$15) ************************************************************************* Table of Contents Foreword Glossary Chronology of Significant Events Prologue Map of China Chapter 1.
